Why is the application process to become an expert so thorough?

We work with by-referral only experts. In addition, we review every application and contact your references. We want to ensure the best possible experience both for the founders and for the experts. Our goal is to help both founders and experts maximize their growth. Therefore, before we onboard an expert we want to make sure that there is a high chance that you will be matched with startups in our community.

What if I want to become an expert but a startup has not referred me yet?

No problem. If you have already worked with a startup you can sign up and enter your startup reference contact in the Expert signup form. Please notify your contact that someone from Upmarqt will be in touch with them. We do check all references.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to onboard you if you have not yet worked/freelanced for a startup. Please resubmit your application once you’ve worked with at least one startup that can be a reference.

When I onboard as an expert, why do I have to be verified by Stripe?

For payments we work with Stripe. When you onboard as an expert there is a step where we have to create a Stripe Express Account for you in order for us to do payouts to your account.

The verification is done by Stripe. Upmarqt does NOT store and does NOT have access to your personal information that you fill in and upload for the creation of Stripe Express Account.

Why was my account rejected?

If your account was rejected at the first submission stage, it is most likely due to one or more of the following reasons.

1. Your submission was incomplete and was missing references.

2. We have tried to reach your reference contact 3 times and they did not respond. Then we have tried to contact you to notify you of that and we did not get a response.

3. At this moment we do not see a match with our founder community.

We want to ensure the best possible experience for both founders and our experts therefore if we onboard an expert we want to be confident that there is a high chance that we can match you with our founders.

If your account was rejected at the second stage it is most likely due to one or more of the following reasons.

1. Your profile remained incomplete for over 2 weeks.

2. We have tried to reach you but did not hear back from you.

When and how can I cancel my account?

You can only cancel your account if you are currently not working and are not planning to work with any startup that contacted you via Upmarqt. If you would like to cancel your account please contact us on support@upmarqt.com

What if there is a disagreement between me and the startup?

To avoid disagreements we recommend ensuring that you are the right person to support the startup during the interview and that you already have experience in the area you are being hired for.

Ensure that all the prerequisites in working with you have been met. For example if you provide marketing services, ensure that the startup has at least a basic brand developed to avoid disagreements in the future.

Ensure, you have a working contract in place and you set KPI’s. Agree with the founder upfront what happens in case of potential disagreements or unmet KPI’s.

However, if there is a disagreement, it is between you and the startup to resolve.

What do I pay to be listed on Upmarqt?

It is free to be listed on Upmarqt.

What is the currency on Upmarqt?

FAQ for Startups

Why work with Upmarqt vs. other alternatives?

Finding the right service provider for your startup can be challenging and draining. If you are looking for a true team member who is not on your payroll, this is the right place to find one.

Upmarqt is a personalized platform for founders to be matched with referral based service providers or independent professionals. So what this means is:

1. Based on what you tell us about your startup and your needs we match you with up to 3 service providers who are available to work now. So we don’t overwhelm you with long lists of portfolios to sort through. We do it for you.

2. When you register on Upamrqt we will invite you to training sessions designed for founders, to help you make the right outsourcing decisions, setting the right KPI’s for your service providers and generally helping you get the most out of your collaboration. This is especially useful when you are outsourcing something that is not in your area of expertise.

3. We vet all service providers before they are onboarded.

4. The platform is free to use for founders.

How do you vet and verify service providers?

There is a 3 step verification process.

1. We only onboard service providers who can provide a startup reference they have worked with before.

2. We check the portfolio of the service provider, when applicable.

3. We have a video call with the service provider.

How do I hire a service provider?

After registering on Upmarqt you can create a project. Then you can tell us what you are looking for. And don’t worry, we provide lots of guidance. We know that you might be looking for someone outside of your area of expertise.

Based on what you tell us, we will match you with up to 3 service providers tailored to your requirements and goals. Have a look at their profiles and portfolios and contact the ones that you feel might be the best fit.

Have a chat with them. We recommend you interview them before outsourcing. At this moment we do not offer a video call feature, however feel free to connect outside of Upmarqt for the purpose of the interview.

When you decide to work together, the expert will send you an invoice via Upmarqt.

Payments to the service providers

When you agree to work with a service provider, they will create an invoice via Upmarqt. Please make sure you agree to the payment terms with the service provider. Once you pay the invoice, the payout is routed directly to the service provider by Stripe.

Who is my contract with when I hire a service provider?

When you hire the service provider, the contract is between you and the service provider. You or the service provider can create a written contract for the working relationship.

What if there is a disagreement between me and the Service Provider?

To avoid disagreements we recommend having a thorough review of the portfolio of the service provider and have an interview. Ensure, you have a working contract in place and you set KPI’s. Agree with the service provider what happens in case of service delivery that doesn’t meet these KPI’s.

However, if there is a disagreement, it is between you and the Service provider to resolve.

What do I pay for Upmarqt services?

There is no membership fee. The platform is free to use. If you decide to hire a service provider you only pay the invoices they create for you + 3% transaction fee that covers the cost of Stripe.

What if I don’t find the right expert?

As we are building out the platform we keep onboarding new service providers. However, if you did not get a match or are unhappy with the match you received, please get in touch with us via our Contact Form (insert link). And a real Upmarqt human will get in touch with you to see how we can help and find a good match for you.
